Connaughton's at it again

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usFree Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us A big boost for the Connaughton campaign today. Senate Majority Leader Walter Stosch has come out and endorsed Connaughton. This is big for two reasons: 1)He obvioulsy has influence as Senate Majority Leader 2)This is a big blow to Bill Bolling, a state senator who can not even get the endorsements of his own Majority Leader, poor bloke. To make maters worse, the Senator is from Henrico county, which neighbors Bollings home county of Hanover. The entire article can be found here on Connaughton's website. Congrats to Connaughton.

Connaughton is crazy to accept these endorsements from the pro-taxers in the Senate. Stosch? Stolle? Norment? Who's next, Chichester himself? I guess it's true: you can tell a man by the friends he keeps.

This race is really coming down to who you supported in the tax debate last year. If you supported the Senate gang of five, the Guv, and the 17 pro-tax House Repubs, vote Connaughton. If you are viewed as "too conservative" because you opposed the tax hikes, vote Bolling.

Gee, there's a huge surprise. A tax-and-spender endorses another tax-and-spender. What's next? It's news that fellow PWC BOCS Republicans support the PWC BOCS Chairman?
It's more significant that one of 'em, Corey Stewart (R-Occoquan) supports Bolling over Connaughton.

Having worked in a low turnout down ticket primary, I know from personal experience that these type of endorsements carry very little weight. In 1997, Ken Stolle had endorsements from most of the major elected officals, unit chairmen and state senators with which he served. He came in third. What matters in these type of campaigns is the grassroots organization. I don't know what either candidate has on the ground as I have been more involved in the Kilgore race. But I am sure that whomever comes out ahead on June 14th will be the candidate who put together the best grassroots effort to help turn out his supporters.
