Virginian Pilot

An article appeared recently in the Virginian Pilot, stating how close the Lt. Gov race is between the "moderates" and "conservatives". The media repeatidly amazes me, considering Connaughton is just as socially conservative as Bill Bolling, but just doesnt wear every issue on his sleave. The article apears here

TC,

Bolling is a poser.

Connaughton has got the game.

Hang in there.

Are their any conservatives from PWC supporting Connaughton? They should know him best. As far as I can tell they are all supporting Bolling.

Real PWC conservatives, such as the clergy, love Connaughton because he practices what he preaches. The political conservatives don't like Connaughton because he gets the job down without allot of whining and fuss. They don't want to solve problems, they want them to continue so they have something to complain about and to rally support. They are going to be the death of our movement and our party.

As someone very close to the situation, I'll tell you why the "conservatives" in PWC don't like Sean. First, understand that the "conservatives" supporting Bolling are mostly members of the PWC Republican Committee. When Sean unseated the longtime Dem. encumbent for the BOS Chairmanship, he did it without the help of the committee. During his tenure, he has been his own man and done things in a practical, straight-forward way. He has refused to pander to the committee, and many of these folks are bitter about it. Ideologically, Sean's very close to them. This is personal, not politics.

Kevin:

You can count those guys on the fingers of one or two hands. Their hostility toward Sean is personal, not based on any overriding political principles (althogh they try to justify it that way). All six of them really have a burr under their saddle about Sean's success and his independence.

Kevin,
You're exactly right. As for those who have disagreed, well... I note that most lack the guts to attach their names (or their real names; who's mitch cumstein?) to their claims, or make unverifiable claims like "Real PWC conservatives, such as the clergy [really; who?], love Connaughton because he practices what he preaches."
And I love how they belittle those with whom they disagree by claiming it's "personal." Yeah, it has nothing to do with the 50-60% increase in property tax bills, or Connaughton's utter failure to control County spending. And I note that they fail to identify one demonstrably "conservative" thing that Sean has done, save for the issue of internet porn filters. Big fat hairy deal! He had a Library Board (with only one appointee by him) to take the heat for it, and it's hardly "conservative" to take the position that publicly-funded libraries shouldn't be allowed to become adult bookstores.
Connaughton is a RINO tax raiser who has never done a thing to advance a conservative position when he's been in a position to do so, and has done precious little to support conservative candidates, choosing individuals who serve as his sycophants every time. And I challenge his supporters to identify even one conservative position (other than internet porn filters) that he's advanced when he's been in a position to do so. The World is waiting.

Jim Young who exactly died and made you the voice of conservatism? You sound sort of mad at life to be a real conservative.

If I remember correctly, Connaughton gave thousands of dollars to elect so-called "conservatives" Corey Stewart and John Stirrup - only to be stabbed in the back once they got into office. I also remember Connaughton pulled the Earley campaign together when the so-called "conservatives" almost lost the county due to their ineptness. It seems to me that everytime he fights for the so-called "conservatives" they screw him.
