Dissapointed in Allen

While I was perusing Fox News, I saw that Trent Lott had written a book complaning about Bill Frist's powerhungriness to take over the Leadership spot, as well as George Allen's response to the liberal media's blow up about his Strom Thurmond remarks. Now I am an admitted pro-states rights Southerner, and I was personally angry at the Country's response to Senator Lott's remarks, but as a resident of Virginia I am suprised to see that Senator Allen called up Trent Lott to ask him to resign for the "good of the party". As small a deal as this may seem, it shows me that Senator Allen has no loyalty to those in his party during rough times.

The fact that Lott made those comments and gave no thought to the way they would be interpretted proves that he's either too stupid or too reckless to hold that leadership position.....plus many Republicans were extremely unhappy with Lott's concept of leadership.....they were eager to get rid of him and the whole Thurmond Birthday extravaganza was just a convenient excuse.

In consonance with his Presidential ambitions and being from a state that didn't exactly champion civil rights back in the day, Allen was right to distance himself from and condemn Lott's remarks in addition to actively working for his removal.

Allen killed two birds with one stone: 1. appeared to champion civil rights being a Virginian who really wants to be President and 2. get rid of a ineffective "leader" in Lott.

Anyone who thinks that Allen is too "aw-shucks" country to be President think again. Be sure you don't "misunderestimate" Allen and his football quotes.

There's one more aspect to this. Allen saw Frist as a primary rival in 2008 and figured that one way to sink Frist was to get him in the Majority Leader position. As soon as there was an opening there, Allen pushed Frist into the post (as if Frist needed any prodding.) Allen is a smart guy and I wouldn't put this past him.
