Last Night...

I went to a dinner hosted by Young America's Foundation on Capitol Hill. The group has an excellent summer program that brings in conservaative-minded students and exposes them to many of the best conservative thinkers of our day. Last night was no exception. We had the opportunity to hear Ann Coulter give one of her normal right-wing speeches. It was an excellent speech on how the intellectual left seems to be getting dumber by the day and that there is no way we can trust the Dem's to run our nation. She than was very fair and attacked what she views as the 'wussy Republican establishment' led by President Bush. The very establishment that is to afraid to take the true fight to the Dems due to a need to be politically correct. All-in-all I agreed with a good portion of the speech given by Ms Coulter. I tended to cringe a wee-bit when she went to far off on the social issues and wished she had gone a little more into fiscal concerns that are facing our nation, those caused by our ridiculiously spend happy congress. She was dead on in the area of immigration, could we please throw up a fence and make people come through legal check points??? In the end the one thing that I liked about the evening was the room full of college students listening to an excellent conservative speaker. It is good to see that there is a group of intellectual and mature kids being brought up in the conservative movement of our time. In many ways it gives me faith in our future and hopes that the mess we keep getting ourselves in will one day stop. But then again don't we always hope that?
