The World is Falling Apart...

Some strange happenings over at Bacon's Rebellion. I will be interested to see where this whole thing goes in the coming days.

It seems like the hosts have varying degrees of sensitivity about the levels of discourse on Katrina-related issues. I've seen greater intemperance levels on other blogs that we all know and love, but Bacon's has always been a kind of nuts & bolts policy site (I mean that in a good way). It's clear that there are folks on each end of the spectrum who want to make Katrina a partisan issue, but we've seen that before on other topics (highways, education), even at Bacon's. I'm not sure why it's causing such apparent internal unhappiness. Jim Bacon has attempted to horse the topic back to Virginia-related issues that flow from the Katrina-response. That's ceratinly a valid take and perhaps not a bad idea, given the abundance of other fora where folks can try to tear out each others' livers on pure partisan hysterics. However, I think Katrina provides a great topic for the kind of in-depth policy discussion about fiscal and structural issues that attend a multi-level emergency response. I think I'll just stay away for awhile until I understand a bit better what's going on. Maybe ther are some really crazy things that they aren't posting. In the meantime, we can all vent with each other. Is that OK with you thick-skinned band of brothers?

best regards,

NoVA
