12:45 in NOVA

The 67th is having a very low turnout. At the Greenbriar Precincts, the Chief Election Officer predicted about a 35-38% turnout, unless a huge evening rush came. I have heard the Marsden/Golden precincts are drawing huge numbers compared to the rest of Fairfax. This could be good for Golden. In Prince William County I have heard the turnout is also very low. Having been at the polls since 6, I believe turnout is low in NOVA because of a lack of Republicans, not Democrats. I have been lectured by many self-proclaimed Republicans regarding the "horrible Kilgore ads", President Bush and his misfortunes, and the lack of a great state-wide ticket. Also-There seems to be a huge change in the way that FCRC is doing election day. Basically no polls in Western Fairfax have people outside for the ticket. They are either inside watching, or out door-knocking. Almost no-one is out front handing out literature. I have also experienced many cross-ticket voters in the 67th. Many voting for Kaine/Byrne but also McDonnell/Craddock.

There is no real need for people outside handing out lit. Folks already know who theyre voting for when they go in.

The 72 hour program by FCRC might actually end up being effective in bringing the margin in fairfax closer, which will help Kilgore.

The margin of Fairfax will not be close.

Just to correct on false statement above - as a former campaign staffer, campaign volunteer, party volunteer, party officer and even former candidate - beleive it or not handing out lit at the polls is very effective in general elections. You wouldn't believe how many people show up to polls with no clue who they are voting for. Typically undecided voters come out to the polls to vote for a candidate in one particular race be it for governor because they see all the ads and the publicity or for a their local supervisor because he's their neighbor, but they have no clue about the rest of the races. Lit they receive can help them pull the lever for the entire ticket. Don't discount poll work for one second in the context of the entire 72 hour plan.

I found that Stafford county did a very poor job at organizing poll workers this year, while the D.s had at least one person at every poll. I think that could have an effect on the out come of the election up and down the ticket.

For report on numbers in Stafford. Most of the regular poll workers thought the turnout was down alittle this morning. Which could be a bad thing for Kilgore - they heavily targeted the entire Fredericksburg/Stafford/Spotys region to get the victory number up over 65% for the region to offset losses in NOVA. Don't know if that is going to happen, but they have an active voter id process and call center working all election day long in Central Park.

Scott, I think this may be a point of legitimate dispute. That is, I think the point of the Rove/72-Hour program is to identify and mobilize the base such that time is better spent getting identified favorables to the polls, rather than in trying to persuade people appearing at the polls. I have no sense at all as to which is more effective, but I certainly could see shifting the focus to the former, rather than the prior method of persuading voters at the polls, as a method proven (is it?) more effective.

That's because guys like me abandoned the Fairfax Party because they've been taken over by pieces of dung like the Craddock crew. Do you clowns really think educated people who have the highest average household income and educational attainment in the country are going to vote with these morons? My neighbors and I, usually relaible Republican voters are disgusted with cretins like Craddock and Golden. We're horrified by their supporters, a bunch of evangelical bible pukes. If that's your Party and their issues are your issues, then you are finished in Western Fairfax. Ask Dick Black!
