Kaine FINALLY talks Transportation Where It Matters

Now that Tim Kaine has paraded down south, he will finally be coming up to Northern Virginia to discuss the traffic problem.

Manassas, Va. (AP) - Virginia's Governor-elect Tim Kaine is bringing town hall meetings on transportation issues to Northern Virginia Tuesday. The meeting Tuesday evening in Manassas is the latest stop on a statewide tour to build consensus about the state's transportation problems and what to do about them. Prince William County Board of Supervisors chairman Sean Connaughton says he plans to press Kaine to get busy with construction projects in the region to relieve traffic gridlock. Kaine has drawn standing-room-only crowds at similar forums in Richmond and elsewhere.

Many speakers at the meetings are often from special interest groups. The head of the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority says he's hoping the discussion won't get bogged down by special interests. The meeting begins at 6:30 pm at Manassas Regional Airport.

I continue to hope that some politician out there means what they say on this issue, as it is having huge impacts not only in commuting time, but also on the economies of Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William. In Fairfax I've heard a lot of talk from Supervisors, and Delegates, but nothing seems to be getting accomplished. UPDATE: The Washington Post enlightens us on the matter as well.

6:30??? This just demonstrates how freakin out of touch Kaine and his people are. Who the hell is going to be able to get out to Manassas by 6:30 on a Tuesday?

I suggest Kaine have a town meeting in Arlington from 4-5, then commute out 66 and see if he can make it to his Manassas Town Hall by 6:30!

excellent comment from Frustrated Commuter. The time and place really do say a lot. I suppose if anyone does try to run the gantlet from DC to Manassas airport by 1830, they'll be mad as hell. So much for hushed tones of quiet reason. There'll probably be a mob of angry commuters with pitchforks and torches.

Obviously, this is a publicity stunt in an effort to further cement support from the voters in PWC who backed him.

These meetings are just a big PR stunt where Kaine wants to know "how you feel".

FYI- He has no plan, or at least isn't rolling it out at these events. Expect "Transportation Reform" to include raising your gas tax.... But not locking the transportation trust fund.

Will anyone be attending this event on the Republican side?

Maybe if people go, Kaine can be pressed for some answers.
