Malaise?

I wanted to be among the first to say it. This story on the dismal polling numbers of the President is going to build the mainstream media's narrative of the President's 2nd term political malaise. So here is the question to be posed: Is President Bush becoming Jimmy Carter?

Not yet, as Bush has yet to do as Jimmy did and announce there was a malaise affecting the country, and effectively blame the country for the problem he saw.

Bush will fight back, and will be the beneficiary of what William Simon (last week on meet the press) called "The Narrative".

Simon suggested that the media writes stories that when bound together formed an ongoing and recognizable narrative. He went on to suggest that a narrative will have ups and downs. He also noted that the press needs new material. Now that they have already bleated about Bush being lower rated than anytime in his presidency, now the new story for them to write will be how he rebounds from this set of problems.

Grover Norquist and the boys will save him with their high ethical standards. When Abramoff decides to cop pleas the rest of this house of corruption will come tumbling down and make Jimmy Carter look like a leader.

Carter wasn't a liar, he was just an incompetent bible thumper. Liars have a harder time recovering from being outed. Great job Brownie!
