State board approves tri-county road

I'll be interested to see a map of the route the tri-county parkway will take as approved by the Commonwealth Transportation Board. Connecting PWC to the Dulles corridor will be a positive for our county, making it easier for our residents to utilize either Reagan or Dulles airports as well as making PWC even more attractive to businesses.

There is an article in the PW Extra section that suggests that maybe PW Officials are not that happy with the state's chosen alignment. See http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/metro/va/princewilliam/index.html

The Potomac News articles I linked to does state that this was not the preferred route. Sean is quoted as saying they had hoped for the alignment along Rt. 28.

I didn't see that at the end of the article. But the Post article has many more quotes from Sean. It looks like he's really upset about the proposal.

Here's what Sean said in the PoNews article:

Prince William Board of County Supervisors Chairman Sean T. Connaughton, R-at large, said the route VDOT chose was not the one the county supported.

The county wanted the proposed road to run along Va. 28.

"We supported the alignment that was in all three counties' comprehensive plan," Connaughton said.

According to the WashPo:

The road would terminate at the Loudoun line, where there is no connection to other major roads. Other alignments would have stretched it as far north as Route 50.

Okay, that IS dumb. The plans to bring it up to Rt. 7 or Rt. 50 make much more sense.
