33rd Update Updated

Spent a little time working in the 33rd today for Mick Staton. Both sides in this race have machines running. Mike Herring is out signing Staton , with Herring signs are up allover the parkway, and neighborhood streets in Western Fairfax. They also line Route 7 heading West. On the ground Staton has a big following in Loudoun County. Herring appears to already be working with special interests from outside the district, but through this has been able to also knock on a lot of doors. If I had to call this race today, I would give an edge to Herring. This just means myself and the rest of the 33rd GOP need to work harder this next week. The right backside of my car now looks like this: What a dynamic duo! UPDATE: Well I was excited for an upcoming debate this Wednesday between the two candidates, but it appears that Democrat Herring has chickened out. Although it's probably a good move politically not to attend a debate, I lose respect for people who don't help encourage debate.

Good for you for getting involved in the political process. I just got back from working from Montgomery and the number of people who didn’t know there was a special election was spectacular. Even more interesting were those who knew and weren’t going to vote. Maybe I’ll see you next weekend or this Monday, but ill be working for the other guy. Something is wrong with a country where only about a third of the people regularly vote.

Does anyone else notice that the Herring signs look a lot like the Bill Bolling for Lieutenant Governor Signs.

Boy! Ya gotta give willis credit! He's so vile, he's forced me to come to the defense of Chairman Sean. That kind of crap (post no. 1) is simply despicable.

Color me surprised.

I must be doing well to be despicable in Young's eyes.

It's very encouraging to see both TC and Nova Dem our working for candidates of their choice. It bodes well for the future. By the way, Nova Dem, from a comment you put in to Mr. Young, I see that you and my daughter are classmates at Bishop O'Connell. Great School. I'd suggest you yourself to my daughter, but she probably wouldn't want me to give out her name on the internet. Obviously, her last name is Scout.

Good luck with college next year.

I didn't even understand what his comment was refering to...

Connaughton/Staton?

Ben-I agree, and thought it was strange.

that last one should read "introduce yourself to my daughter." It wasn't my intention to leave room for imagination to pick a verb.

:-), i can’t say that i know anyone who's name is scout, but maybe she'll have heard of me (it turns out i am the "infamous" liberal at the school). If she’s interested, the young dems and reps are going to Richmond on march 10th courtesy of delegate eisenberg to meet the governor and see the general assembly in session. If you think she may be interested my email is jamesemartin@gmail.com.

What about the swarms of Patrick Henry College people from outside the district that are working in this race? Don't they count as "special interests"?

Staton is the one who "chickened out" by rejecting the standard LWV OPEN TO THE PUBLIC debate. Guess he was too afraid he would get trounced like his father-in-law. He is only willing to debate behind closed gates. I guess that goes with his closed mind.

I am a free thinker, and I can assure you Supervisor Staton is not a clone of his father in-law

As sometimes happens in the best of families, my daughter is an anarcho-syndicalist, despite the fact that the Scouts have been Republicans since the 1856 Election: ("Fremont, Fremont, he's our man. If he can't do it, no one can!!") It's a matter of great disappointment to me, although recently she has been showing Trotskyite tendencies. I intertpret this as the first part of a move to the right. Actually, Nova Dem, I'm sure you're a good guy, but I'd rather have her hang around with TC. He's a little closer to my view of the world. Then again, she might corrupt his politics.

TC,

You're naive if you think Staton's not a clone. Didn't you see Black out in the neighborhoods this weekend campaigning? Didn't you hear Staton's campaign manager's revenge cry?

If that's not enough look at the politics. Staton is a lieutenant in the Black Brigade, and will bring more of the same.

By the way, does anyone else think it was funny how Staton tried to turn a private rally at Falcon's Landing into a public debate. Guess he changed gears after getting heat about the LWV dis. I LOL thinking about having a viable debate at Staton's "voter bus depot".

Staton has no interest in doing anything but motivating the Black Brigade. That's what can win a special election. Anyone else is the enemy to him. (including moderate republicans).

Unfortunately an elected official is supposed to represent everyone. Staton is exactly like Black in this regard. He will only represent the interests of BBers. He has no interest in talking with anyone who doesn't sit in the pew next to him at church.

The approach, the tactics, the politics, the agenda can not be separated. It's the same, Staton and Black are the same.

Didn't Blight claim to be a republican a while ago? What ever happened to that?

Willis, it's interesting how your mind always seems to revert to 'GAY'.

blight-

you are wrong.

I have spend time personally talking with Supervisor Staton, and I know he is not.

Even on issues they are not identical.

As I said before..there's some people you could say things about..but I am a free thinker within the party...and Staton is not a clone.

TC,

It doesn't surprise me that Staton BBers are trying to distance themselves from Black's politics. In fact, I don't think you would disagree with merit of that strategy.

We'll have to disagree on whether Staton is like Black. I am not the only one that sees a strong similarity. That's way it's critical Staton distance himself through retoric.

There are many concrete examples of their similarities. Not the least of which was the horrendous way they both handled the Stone Bridge HS play.

Assuming you're correct, Staton needs to strongly and immediately clarify what ways he is different. Otherwise, he's sticking to Black like resin and a hardener.

If you're so close to Staton, ask him a question for all of us.

Will he be endorsing Black to take his seat on the Board of Supervisors.

If that's to close to the family to ask, ask him if he will be endorsing Eugene Delgaudio for chairmanship of the Loudoun Republican party.

I think we can all agree a Chairman Delgaudio scenario would be a nightmare. Heck a Supervisor Delgaudio is a nightmare.

Involved,

I did state that I was a Republican and I've not wavered from that statement.

I've not waived since my days of working on Reagan's campaigns.

What I speak out about is the extremism and ineffectiveness of the BBers.

Can't we get better candidates! Candidates that will take us to the core issues and not some extreme agenda.

Now if I don't appear to be your type of Republican, or your type of Christian I'd say that's your problem.

I am still hoping you can change your name from Involved to Evolved.

Staton is a Dick Jr. He even said it himself. My values are the same as my father-in-laws. How else should that comment be interpreted?

Did anyone else on the Va. Club for Growth get his e-mail from Staton's Campaign Manager, Kellie DeRouen, who was recently hired as the Club's Executive Director?

I am amazed at the candor.

We are being asked to support Mick Staton BY HIS OWN CAMPAIGN MANAGER so that we can "do a great service" to Dick Black? That's what Staton's campaign is about?

What a horrible campaign strategy for Staton.

Hello Fellow Conservatives,

I wanted to take this time to introduce myself to you and let you know that our whole staff will be working very hard to make sure that Mick Staton will be our next 33rd District Senator. Mick is the son-in-law of Delegate Dick Black and he is a great guy who is a pro-life, pro-gun, and anti-tax candidate. Even though we lost a great conservative in this past election I want you to know that now is your chance to fight back and defend our conservative values. By helping Mick you will be doing a great service to Delegate Black. Please join me in helping to get Mick Staton elected to the 33rd District Senate Seat. If you would like to volunteer for the campaign please contact me at the information below. Thank you and I hope you have a Happy New Year!
