Another Candidate For the 10th?

Rumors have been flying that Loudoun County Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio has also been spouting off his dislike for Jim Rich, the Chairman of the 10th District GOP. I have heard from sources that he also plans to run if it looks like Heidi Stirrup can not muster enough support. Elected officials seem to at least publicly be staying out of this, but at some point them and their people are going to have to start making decisions.

Delgaudio is a LOON!

I did a little research on the man yesterday. I went to his "Public Advocate for the United States" site.

He makes Dick Black look like a centrist.

C'mon, Loudon GOP. Can't you find a fiscal conservative that isn't a social extremist? This seems like yet another example of social reactionaries hijacking the GOP apparatus. They say the right things about fiscal issues, which is enough to satisfy many of the constitutents, and then start plugging away with this social agenda that is so far out of the mainstream.

Is it candidate recruitment? I don't think so. I think that it is a product of the type of people that are willing to run hard for office whether other party regulars like it or not. The fiscal issues get them in the door, but the social issues are what brings them to the table in the first place, and what makes them run so hard.

Thoughts?

Eugene would be preferable to Jim Rich, though his tactics are better-suited to a minority movement than to a healthy majority party.

However, on principle, I do not like the idea of having elected officials serving in Party office. Gives 'em the wrong idea.

That's not entirely true. I received a letter last week (or was it two weeks ago?) from Frank Wolf endorsing Jim Rich. I guess that answers the question as to whether Congressman Wolf will get actively involved.

That letter is no surprise. I don't know if I saw it here, or in a comment here, but any suggestion that Frank Wolf would "stay out of it" is baseless. He worked for Rich during the last serious challenge to him.

Delgaudio is a great choice for the Loudoun Republicans.

This will be exactly like the Staton/Minchew race. Moderates will support Jim Rich, and everyone else will show up in mass to elect Heidi.

In the end we will have a new and improved Republican serving us in the 10th district.

I take it from your previous posts that you anticipate that Heidi will win. If so, it would be great to see her get "improved". She could sure use it!

Heidi has NO chance of winning.

This is the 10th district GOP here...

I am familiar with the 10th District Committee, and I assure you Heidi or Eugene as Chair would be a disaster. Heidi is a shrill, divisive figure who will accelerate our decline in the 10th. Eugeneis just silly.

I know alot of the posters want all the moderates and moderate-conservatives expelled from the party, but don't they want to win some elections? Isn't it nice to be in charge?

If this Delgaudio rumor is true, I'll lose all faith in any form of party politics.

Unbelievable. j.sarge thank you for nailing it on the head.

In fact, we should be moving the other way and kicking this guy out of town.

Is it just me, or does Eugene Delgaudio look like that Matthew Lesko guy who runs around D.C. wearing a suit covered in question marks screaming about all the free money that the government is giving away in those infomercials?

Gentlemen and ladies: I have filed to run against Jim Rich. I am a candidate for 10th District Republican Chairman. I am a member in good standing of the LCRC (Loudoun County Commmittee) and have been a loyal team player for Republican party candidates since 1964. Namecalling is easy when you do not work very hard. I challenge my detractors to give to the GOP as much as I have and work for as many candidates as I have. For six years I led the Mason District Republican Party back when there was a waiting list to get on the committee and there was 100 per cent attendence of all 75 members. This past general election the polling places looked like a Democrat primary with little or no Republican participation. There's more going on here than an ideological split. My tactics and policies have been mimicked by Presidents and Presidential candidates and political stalwarts of all stripes. Even Comedy Central gives me credit sometimes. How about it?

Holy Crap. I can't believe I just read that. I must be up too later. Is this a joke? TC, you have to make a post on this. Unbelievable. The GOP could really send a message here. I wonder if they're up to it.

Eugene, buddy, with all due respect, I will reiterate my conceptual objections to "having elected officials serving in Party office." While in your case, I concede the danger is lessened, in general, it gives 'em the wrong idea.

Besides, it splits the conservative vote. How is a good conservative supposed to choose between you and Heidi? Besides, she's much prettier than you are, a point you'd better concede early. ;-)

Jim's right... their both equally loony.

You know, Anon 5:16, you self-styled "good conservatives" --- really Liberals lacking the courage of your convictions --- can't even take "Yes" for an answer. I said Eugene shouldn't run. Can't you just grow up and shut up when you get agreement?
