I had a professor in college in a national security policy course. He was well-traveled, a true hero, and had done much diplomatic work. He was a Southern Democrat, and one of the big issues of the day was, of course, Soviet expansionism in Central America. Nicaragua had fallen, and El Salvador was threatened. And he described the balance that should be stricken, how --- while we might have to support unsavory characters like the Nicaraguan dictator displaced by the Sandinistas --- we did not, as he has once seen the American ambassador do, have to "kiss his cherry red."

I was never quite sure what he meant by that phrase.

Until now.

Wait, he forgot a couple:

Whereas Gary Reese totally reniged on his promise not to raise taxes until the GA enacted "meaningful" budget reform, and

Whereas Gary Reese egotistically and unfairly smeared my opponent in the 67th in order to help get me elected...

It is appropriate, respectful, and common practice to acknowledge the service of an outgoing elected official. Gary Reese did a lot of good things for that area, both as a school board member and as a delegate.
