Great Day For The Blog UPDATED

Last post before I leave for Arkansas at 6 am tomorrow. I will be bringing a laptop, but am not sure if Bill Clinton had them install wireless in Hope. Too Conservative had a record number of page views today, with over 1,630 so far. I wanted to thank out ever-expanding reader base, and again give out my e-mail. conservative2054@hotmail.com for anyone who wants to talk. -TC While usually I do not buy into revealing something...Jim Young has challenge me to prove that the blog has been getting alot of views lately..... This is the statistics since the blog has been created:

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure that 630 of them were mine. ;-)

TC, I did not "challenge [you] to prove that the blog has been getting alot of views lately." I stated that "one has to wonder where all those e-mails and anonymous hits are coming from. Unless you publish, we have only your word. And frankly, on something like your little rant, your word just don't make it." I did not question the number of hits. I questioned your assertion (perhaps less than specifically) that you "have never gotten as many supportive e-mails as I have in the past day about my post." How many is that? Three? And from whom?

And my first post was a bon mot.

What a DINK - he even argues about how many posts and emails a site gets.

Release your anger - Go kick the dog.

Good grief Mr. Young, are you always so obsessed with mundane facts?

It seems as if the green envy monster has you by the tail...

Congrats TC! A very good sign that readers are interested and learning. Keep up the good work!

I don't like to be misrepresented, Lucy. Or misunderstood. Especially when someone infers something that I did not intend, but perhaps inartfully stated.

Then what does this mean:

I did not question the number of hits. I questioned your assertion (perhaps less than specifically) that you "have never gotten as many supportive e-mails as I have in the past day about my post." How many is that? Three? And from whom?

Are you really interested in the actual number of emails TC received and the senders' names? If so, WHY???

At 1/26/2006 11:04:00 PM, Blogger James Young said...

Because it's one thing to throw out that kind of affirmation, and another to: (a) prove it; and (b) identify the character and history of those doing it.

My problem with TC's entire rant was its painting with a broad brush, and seemingly smearing of some of the most committed and activist Republicans. And the more I think about it, the more it sounds like the complaint of someone who didn't get his way on a candidate he cared about, and attributing to those opposing him misdeeds. And while I realize that Algore popularized this kind of paranoid smear, it has no place in the GOP.

Jim- How do WE know that TC misrepresented or misunderstood you? Maybe he hit the nail RIGHT on the head and, upon being discovered, you chose to change your opinion, just to contrary. Don't bother, I'll answer my own question...

The reason we know that you were misrepresented or misuderstood is that YOU say so. For TC to try to characterize what you think or feel is, at best, conjecture.

I would encourage you to keep this statement in mind when you choose to interpret or characterize what others say, based on your own assumptions, absent an explanation on their part.

So, you're saying you were not really interested in the actual number of emails or who sent them, you were trying to establish the character of TC?

At 1/27/2006 09:01:00 AM, Blogger James Young said...

No, Lucy. I mean don't claim piles of support for a position with no intention whatsoever of demonstrating that support by publication.

lucy-
I like you a lot.

Have we met?

TC,

No, we haven't met that I know of.

I've been following your blog for quite a while and I have a great deal of respect for you. I truly admire your morals and conviction, both political and otherwise. I believe you will make a big difference one day. You're making a big difference now.

(I hope I'm around to vote for you!)

If my oldest daughter actually brought home someone even close to your standard I would probably break my neck getting the wedding underway!

Ah, there's always hope...

Mr. Young,

Surely you didn't really expect TC to publish his emails did you? You would jump all over him for something legally evil like violating someone's trust or something...

How far would you like the rest of us go to make sure YOU are telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth? Maybe we should ask you to post your last 5 years worth of tax returns to make sure you are really a conservative? How about your bank records so we can tell just how much you are donating to church and charity? How do we really even know you are who you say you are? You could be anyone posing as the real James Young... Maybe you have a video cam so we can see you?

Sometimes, you have to step out of the courtroom and take things at face value...

After all, this is a blog not the Supreme Court!

Lucy, it's a very simple proposition. Don't refer to them as support without being willing to publish them. It's little different from Joe McCarthy's reference to a list of 205 Communists in the State Department.

As for me, Lucy, feel free to go as far as you like "to make sure [I] am telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth." While I am at a loss to understand how it is my tax returns would have anything to do with whether I am a conservative, I've never cited them as support for anything that I can recall. Likewise, I've never made any comments about how much I'm donating to church and charity.

As for a "video cam," the aesthetic horror of your proposal precludes me from doing so.

This DEMAND for the facts from the same guy who accused Marty Nohe, in print, of moving in to the Dumfries district to run for office - on the "good word" of someone Mr. Young knew. Too bad he was too full of himself and too full of hatred of Nohe to CHECK THE FACTS. Marty had lived in the district YEARS prior to Mr. Young alleging he had moved with the alleged desire to run for office. But that didn't matter to Mr. Young. He had it on good authority that it was true! And of course when you're as important as Mr. Young you don't actually have to check the facts in the public record. Just swing wildly, you'll eventually hit something (or is it someone??)

Compare that with his twisted zeal of searching out the facts all because someone has claimed to get loads of support on a freebie blog. Good grief, why do you even care? Why on earth would it matter one iota to a 40-something, overweight dude in short pants WHAT a young man writes on his personal blog - as long as he's not attacking you?

Anon 5:32 --- It was not "on the good word of someone I knew"; it was "on the ... word" of then Potomac News reporter Sondra Jontz-Merrifield. And when Marty disputed it on my website last year (he did not dispute it when I published it in my column, before the 2003 primary), I apologized (on my blog), he accepted my apology, and I have never said any such thing again. And BTW, if Marty had taken offense, he had remedies.

And I don't "hate" Marty Nohe, though I know the likes of you just LOVES to throw out that little accusation to belittle others who don't join people like you in their sycophancy; I largely hold him in contempt. There's a difference. In fact, the only one who seems to be "full of hatred" here is you.

In fact, Anon 5:32, the only one "swing[ing] wildly" with an overinflated sense of importance is YOU, since you failed to check your facts. Perhaps your failure to check YOUR facts is one reason why you find it necessary to remain anonymous.

Now that's a lot of $.25 words! Whew! I bet there's a lot of juicy gossip there... But I won't ask. Gossip is not nice. Dang, I always miss the good stuff!

I am at a loss to understand how it is my tax returns would have anything to do with whether I am a conservative, I've never cited them as support for anything that I can recall.

No, you haven't cited them as support for anything that I know of. I'm just the kind of person that likes to actually see how people manage their personal lives to assess their character. Since this is the blog world and I can't see your life, your financial records and church records would be an interesting indicator of your often-claimed conservatism. Now wouldn't it be ridiculous for me to ask for those private documents on a blog just to satisfy my curiosity? Isn't it equally ridiculous to ask someone to post private emails?
