Mary Matalin -- "Sen. Allen is a visionary."

On Rush Limbaugh's show today, the guest host was interviewing Mary Matalin. When asked about 2008, she gave proper respect to the whole GOP field, but named George Allen as the one to watch, saying, "Senator Allen is a visionary." Matalin cited Allen's Jeffersonian conservative philosophy and executive experience as Virginia Governor. Couple this with former RNC Chairman Ed Gillespie's support and you're seeing a number of the conservative establishment coalesce around Allen's 2008 presidential campaign. Not a bad way to begin things at all.

I am always wary of Matalin. I just cannot see how someone who seems to have such good political sensibilities could ever marry someone like "serpent head", as she calls him.

Besides, she's not a conservative -- she is a Republican.

I think he's a solid candidate. Not sure what the "visionary" part is. I confess I find Matalin a bit off-putting. I've never quite grasped what her skill set is.

As much as I admire Senator Allen, I'm always wary of pundits (on both sides of the aisle.) Should the Republican field get crowded early(McCain,Brownback,Giuliani,et al.) ,Senator Allen will have to start standing on his record sooner than his campaign would like.

I say this because while having a record to stand on is good, it can force the potential campaign to visit potential potholes before they would have had the field been slim.

Having said that, a strong field of candidates also helps to hone and strengthen the campaign's message.
Just some food for thought.

Allen is a Bush clone. No wonder she likes him.

Allen in '08. He will certainly win in South Carolina: the state which elects the presidents.

C'mon, nova scout! Anyone who can live in the same house as Snakehead is a saintly model of tolerance and patience.
