More than just a popularity contest

Lo and behold, some Congressional Republicans actually want their candidates for leadership to put out platforms showing what they would do if elected to lead them. We must have really lost our way if it has come to this, but at least we're getting back to basics. I'd rather have this happen in January than in September or October right before Election Day. In terms of lobbying reform, I actually find myself agreeing with John McCain on one thing -- smaller government means the less chance for someone to try to influence things. I'll go one step further, though, limiting (or eliminating) earmarks AND instituting a flat tax is the best lobbying reform Congress could enact.
