Stirruping Controversy In The 10th

The 10th District Committee has been lead for years by Chairman Jim Rich, who has been a long time supporter of Congressman Frank Wolf. Congressman Wolf has already sent out a letter endorsing Mr.Rich for Chairman yet again. Word has come to me from someone close to the 10th District Committee that a secret coup d'etat is being planned, to oust Chairman Rich and install Heidi Stirrup instead. Heidi Stirrup is the wife of Gainesville Supervisor John Stirrup from Prince William County. Supervisor Stirrup is often seen with Congressman Wolf, and has long been rumored to want to eventually run for Congress after Wolf's retirement. Heidi's rise to power could enable her to help fulfill her husbands dream eventually, and in the meantime, help him secure the Vice-Chairman position on the Prince William County Board of Supervisors. More information as it becomes available.

This could be political suicide for the Stirrups. Congressman Wolf is extraordinarily loyal to Jim Rich and treats disloyalty to Rich as disloyalty to himself. After this, maybe John and Heidi could move back to Arlington and John can run against Jim Moran.

All of the African hating homophobes will drive out to Winchester to oppose Jim Rich and his AIDS loving ways.

Jim Rich is a good man, I do not know Ms.Stirrup well...I just can't imagine why she would do this

I don't see how Heidi being 10th Dist. Chairman would help John become PWC BOCS Vice Chairman. Caddigan was just reelected to that on Tuesday for another term. Unless you're talking about farther down the line for that. Even then, I'm not sure how Heidi being in that post would help John secure the Vice Chairman position. Most of the other supervisors live in the 1st or 11th districts as well.

Come Monday morning, when Jim Young gets to work, he will be ALL OVER this topic. Remember that it was just last Monday, under a post entitled, "Race for the 29th" that Jim Young was quoted as saying, "...if you're as well-informed as you pretend to be, you'd know about the machine of the evil Jim Rich."

I can't wait to hear what WJY has to say about this one.

He lives in the 11th now.

But what does that say about Heidi?

Congressman Wolf has never been known to get involved in intra-party contests. While Cong. Wolf may lend his name to Jim Rich's candidacy, does that mean he will actively support Jim? Let's wait and see.

Appropos of nothing, who is rumored to be or likely to be the democratic candidate in the 10th district? Any word, rumors, etc?

Heidi for 10th District Chairman and now Tom Kopko for Prince William County Chairman. The excitement is raging in PWC.

Well clearly, peopel who sign the tax pledge always win. For example...

Shaun Kenney, Steve Chapman, Christopher Oprison, Mark Jarvis, Dan Berrios, Bob Berry, Mike Rothfeld, Bob Fitzsimmonds, Rich Jankowski...

Big winners all!

To Mitch's wife: that's because they are better grassroots organizers and can motivate those with 1-2 issues. It's harder to motivate MOR Republicans who just donate and vote in general elections.

Thank goodness for DelGaudio. He has a pretty high amusement factor. Without people like him, folks might start taking local GOP politics seriously.

12:35 pm Anonymous: Eugene is running for Chairman of what? Certainly not Prince William County since he lives in Loudoun County. Besides I believe he enjoys his title of "Sterling Supervisor!"

This is the first step in a planned challenge of Frank Wolf by John Stirrup and the right-wing. Wolf's record is fairly moderate to liberal for a Republican, incredibly more liberal then Tom Davis' record but Wolf keeps a much lower profile. John Stirrup has made it quite clear he wants Wolf's seat and that Wolf is too liberal for him, Ken Cuccinnelli and Dick Black. Wolf thought he could avoid a challenge by never helping anyone in a intra-party battle, now he will find out that avoiding those battles strengthened the right wing about the challenge him. Mark these words: if Heidi Stirrup wins the 10th District Chairmanship, John Stirrup will challenge Frank Wolf in two years.

Ok, Too Conservative, if you have personal loyalties to Rich, I can understand that, but some of these posts sound paranoid, including your initial one. Ms. Stirrup is running for an intra-party office against a long-time incumbent. Why is this such big news? Aren't conservatives in favor of competition? As a grassroots activist in the 10th, I have yet to see Jim Rich's record of accomplishment as an activist for Congressman Wolf or much of anyone else. This challenge is about the need for a stronger, more active 10th district and the need for someone with the initiative and experience to build it. Ms. Stirrup has that (and for goodness sake let's leave her husband's career out of this - she's an accomplished individual in her own right, not a shill for someone else's ambitions).

10th District Conservative- Can you please list Heidi Stirrup's accomplishments as a grassroots activist in NOVA, specificall the 10th district? I never heard of this woman until her husband ran for office. Of course, since then she hasn't shut-up.

You never heard of her because she spends most of her free time fox hunting with her friends. Yes, this is serious; don't you go fox hunting every weekend?

She's more conservative than Jim. That's all I need to know!

This is going to be a Republican election, and as has been stated on here many times, conservatives win when Republicans are voting... and if she runs, she's got my vote.

Anonymous 3:32 claims Frank Wolf is more liberal than Tom Davis.

I find this bald assertion difficult to believe, and would love to see something to back up this claim...because I think Anonymous 3:32 is talking out of his hat to make such claims.

Moreover, given that the democrats came after Wolf in 2004 claiming he was ultra conservative, I would really like to see how in the world anyone can say Wolf is moderate to liberal-even with the conditional "for a republican".

What you mean to say is that Stirrup and such are tired of waiting for Wolf to retire, and will come up with any kind of trip to try to unseat an elected official who has represented his party and his district honestly, capably, and with integrity for almost thirty years.

This is the ratings from the American Conservative Union:

Representative Frank WOLF (R)
Virginia, District 10
2004 Score - 76

Representative Tom Davis (R)
Virginia, District 11
2004 Score - 80

Anon 3:32 claims "Wolf's record is fairly moderate to liberal for a Republican, incredibly more liberal then Tom Davis' record but Wolf keeps a much lower profile."

When asked for for the basis for this claim, the claim is supported only by a 2004 ACU score of 80 for Davis, and 76 for Wolf.

In the interest of complete fairness, it should be noted that in 2003, Davis had a score of 73 and Wolf a score of 84. Lifetime ACU ratings show Davis with a 73 rating and Wolf with an 82 rating.

So much for the idea that Frank Wolf is "incredibly more liberal" than Tom Davis...

Amazing what happens to bald assertions and baseless claims when one considers all the record.

So, we shall sit back and wait to to see that proof that Wolf's record is "incredibly more liberal" than Davis's record.

So why won't you guys let Frank Wolf have his pick for the Committee that is responsible for his re-election?

At 1/10/2006 08:21:00 AM, Blogger mitch's wife said...

Becasue they don't WANT him to get re-elected. They want him to lose in a primary to John Stirrup.

At 1/10/2006 09:40:00 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Or do they want Heidi Stirrup to sabotage Wolf's campaign in order to open up the seat for John Stirrup ...?

At 1/10/2006 10:20:00 AM, Blogger Involved said...

Neither,

We live in a representative democracy in this country. As a result, we tend to elect leaders for most organizations, ranging from our President of these United States of America, down to president of an elementary school Student Government Association.

Staying in line with this, the republican party of Virginia has chosen to elect our district chairs. This is not a position that is appointed by either RPV, nor by the highest sitting politician in said district. If RPV chose to change this rule, it would certainly be within their ability to do so, however our ability to freely elect our district chair currently remains intact.

As to your baseless accusation of trying to unseat Wolf, I would LOVE to see the evidence of this claim. My guess is that this is a moderate ploy to stop their beloved moderate district chair from being replaced with a conservative. It's not gonna work!

Am I the only one who noticed or did "Involved" arrive on the scene EXACTLY the same time that "MOM" left the scene?

Are they the same person? Did "MOM" get nervous when I figures out who he was? Did you change handles Burt?

I'm Involved, not MOM and not Burt.

Since I'm a guy, the MOM title wouldn't fit too well, and although I've been called many things, I've never before been called 'BURT'.

What other names are you using, anon?

MOM hasn't left and my name is not Burt. I guess you "figures" wrong. Must not pay attention either as I have actually responded to "Involved" in earlier threads.

One last note, MOM never gets nervous about anything it is those who irritate MOM through stupidity, arrogance or avarice who get nervous.
