Tom DeLay permanently steps down as Majority Leader / Eric Cantor running for Majority Whip

Tom DeLay has informed Speaker Hastert that he will permanently step aside as House Majority Leader. With rebellion growing among both moderates and conservatives, this was only a matter of time. Acting Majority Leader Roy Blunt and John Boehner from Ohio have already both thrown their hats in the ring for the leadership election to be held the end of this month. Should Blunt prevail and relinquish his Majority Whip post, could his Chief Deputy, Virginia's own Eric Cantor make the jump up to replace Blunt? Time will tell! UPDATE: Cantor IS running for Whip. It appears that he'll face Michigan's Mike Rogers in this contest.

I admit to not having followed Cantor too closely in the House, but have had the impression that he got where he's got by tucking in under the wing of Mr. Delay. If so, I assume that has suddenly gone from being a plus to being a minus. If others have a more accurate fix than I on the Cantor/Delay link, I'd be glad to hear about it and set straight

Cantor got their through Blunt...so now he is in the pickle that the caucus dosen't want to see Blunt and his man in both slots.

My vote is for Zach Wamp (TN-3). Cantor is surrounded by the folks as DeLay, Rudy, and Scanlon. Time for a FRESH view. I bet his goose is cooked anyway.
