Minutemen Rally

I am heading into D.C. for a minutemen rally with Congressman Tom Tancredo, and founder Jim Gilchrist. It is one of the unofficial opening events for CPAC, which begins tomorrow. More on the event when I return.

Damn...where is that? I'm in DC right now, and I wouldn't mind going and laughing at those people.

The Minutemen and Tom Tancredo.

"Xenophobia for the 21st century."

That, of course, should be their motto...

Go, Minutemen, Go!

Regardless of party affliation, those who choose to support illegal immigration are unAmerican, period.

Xenophobia? I doubt it.

The minutemen regularly harass legal immigrants and their families...they're the KKK of our time.

No VC,

Where do you get that from?

The Minutemen are against illegal immigration, not LEGAL immigration. they make this very clear in their patroling on the boarder, public statements and web postings.

Do you have any facts to back up your finction-rich statements, or is everyone a racist if they don't encourage illegal activity, as you seem to?

Come on. At everyone one of their rallies, there are press reports of one or two of them blurting out their true feelings towards mexicans.

"Go back to Mexico!" or "Learn the language" or the like.

These guys are an embarassment to the anti-immigration movement. They discredit some relatively rational arguments made by clear-eyed people against illegal immigration.

It's safe to say that everyone's against illegal immigration. No one gets browine points for feeling that way. The hard part starts when one tries to develop programs for dealing with it - both in terms of prevention and, more perplexingly, what to do where it is already in place. A particularly difficult issue is the children of illegals, many of whom are U.S. citizens and who have done nothing illegal themselves.

Your quote was "The minutemen regularly harass legal immigrants and their families" and yet you're now saying that you've seen press reports that one or two random people, who have attended rallies thrown by the Minutemen, have stated that illegals should "go back to Mexico". How is does this even come close to your original comment?

Your story has changed. Let me ask you this once more, to see how much it will change again:

What have the Minutemen (as an organization) done in order to justify your comment that they "regularly harass legal immigrants and their families."

A couple random people who you think you remember reading about or seeing in press reports you won't directly reference, at rallies you haven't attended. This is hardly a justification of your baseless comment. Perhaps you should listen to what they actually have to say before allowing your preconceived biases to pervert your already damaged integrity, in the future.

Well, the co-founder, Chris Simcox, seems to be mentally unstable. He has a history of domestic abuse, including sexual molestation of a daughter.

According to one of our local Virginia activists, "Illegal aliens have brought a leprosy epidemic to an area near Boston," as well as numerous other wacky assertions about disease and pedophilia.

Here's what a local sheriff said about his meeting with a Texas Minuteman group: "They kept talking a lot about shooting illegals, and what they could and couldn't do to make it self-defense of life or property," DeLaGarza said. "One woman kept asking, 'Well, what if they reach for a rock, can we shoot them then? What if they're on private land? Can we shoot them for trespassing?'"

California Minuteman organizer James Chase stated that he would allow his recruits in California to openly carry hunting rifles, assault rifles and shotguns, though he also recommended bringing "baseball bats, stun guns, and machetes."

"I keep hearing all these things: I'm a rogue. I'm a Rambo. I want to shoot the heads off people," said Chase to the San Diego Union-Tribune. "I'm a flower child compared to Gilchrist and Simcox."

Do any of these people sound particularly sane to you? To me, they sound like increasingly scary versions of Eugene Delgaudio, with weapons. TC, you really want to associate with this?

David,

The Minutemen held a meeting last night, in Herndon. I was fortunate to be able to attend, and oddly enough, Simcox didn't say anything that would resemble your characterizations. However, this isn't too shocking considering that you didn't site any of the sources for your last comments; nor were you able to prove anything more than that you think some people have said stuff that could be offensive. Notice how you didn't mention the Minutemen actually doing anything to "regularly harass legal immigrants and their families" as VC lied. With the Minutemen being active for more than a year now, where is any of the violence that you claim they endorse?

Contrary to your quotes, there have been NO DOCUMENTED cases of any violence on the part of the Minutemen. No shootings, no beatings, not even a case where someone was spit upon for crossing the boarder. In fact, Simcox made a point of saying that they have a strict process to weed out such individuals because nuts like you want nothing more than to find the one bad apple in the group, in order to bring down the entire organization.

In fact, Simcox spoke about the people they have SAVED. Many of those who choose to cross the boarder are not prepared for the conditions of the dessert, and the days of desert travel that are required. As a result, the Minutemen have saved the lives of hundreds of illegal immigrants that they have rescued from the dessert.

So let me ask you once again, since this seems to be a difficult question for those on the bigoted left:
What have the Minutemen (as an organization) done in order to justify VC’s comment that they "regularly harass legal immigrants and their families."

Actually,if you checked into Jim Gilchrist, not only is he Catholic, but his son in law is Mexican. He says he's very proud of him. He's a legal and loves His country. The minutemen are trying to have politicians uphold our laws, follow our Constitution, this is our foundation. If laws aren't upheld, how are we going to survive as a nation?
