NLS Compares Cuccinelli and Staton

Check out NLS' post on Cuccinelli compared to Staton. I like both Senator Cuccinelli and Supervisor Staton on a personal and ideological level but sadly I do feel that with Senator Cuccinelli's district being much more liberal than the 33rd, that he in big trouble. If we can work hard to repair our image in NOVA, we can hold this seat.

I think the thing with Cooch, though, is he has very good constituent service and that makes a world of difference with voters.

The problem is that right-wing republicans only make up 30% of the electorate, which becomes a problem because you cant win election with 30% (though stanton tried:-))

Riley, Bill Mims, as much as I hate to admit, had about the best consituent service of any elected official in Loudoun County (perhaps except Joe May, who really is a community man).

That didn't factor last night.

What factored was issues and priorities. Cooch is too late in trying to remake himself, and it will be enjoyable watching him turn shades like a chameleon.

However, if the Dems don't play their cards right the next year & a half, this one could stay with the Cooch.

That said, I honestly think DD and O'Brien are truly, truly endangered. Maybe Cooch is only threatened?

It would be interesting to see Cuccinelli's record over the years. Legislation patroned, co-patroned. I seem to remember he had more than just social issues on his docket. He also was a major force in the sales tax referendum and worked with Democrats to get it defeated. He is more than a one trick pony. He will not be changing his stripes as he doesn't need to. He is a social conservative, yes, but that is not his only concern

Cooch is history. The tide is turning up here in outer NOVA, and its sweeping the far-far right wing out.

They will have to settle for winning nominations and Party posts, which I think is all they truly care about anyway.

I only know two things about Cooch but I know I won't soon forget... 1) the hissy-meltdown he had about GMU's Sex-stravaganza and 2) his representing John Grigsby in a defamation lawsuit. Oops. I just remember a third instance... Cooch in the Senate trying to shut down Planned Parenthood clinics. His arguments were almost as lame and painfully slow as his arguments on Grigsby's behalf. What kind of law does he supposedly practice?

All I know is that he is a big fat liar and forger...

He never tried to "shut down" planned parenthood clinics. He just tried to get them to have to abide by decent health regulations, just like any other medical facility that provides similar services. The fact that this was ooposed by the ultra-left does not surprise me because they could really care less about women's health as long as you don't take away their "right" to kill babies.
